Charlie Throckmorton

PRCA Announcer

As a rodeo announcer, Charlie Throckmorton’s career has spanned over 30 years. The Cleburne, Texas native announced his first rodeo in May of 1970 while he was still in high school working for the legendary Bernis Johnson. Years later Charlie Throckmorton obtained his PRCA card and is now a Gold Card member. Eight time World Champion Cowboy Harry Tompkins encouraged Throckmorton to turn pro and announcer Pete Logan from Montana signed his card.

Charlie Throckmorton was part of the announcing team for the 1991 National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and has announced rodeos and bull riding in over 40 states. He has called the action at the National Finals Steer Roping (1990 and 2001-2005) as well as the Dodge National Circuit Finals in 1992. Charlie has announced the Texas PRCA Circuit Finals a total of 10 times in his career. He also held the microphone for the Extreme Bull National Finals held in Reno, Nv. in 2005. A list of PRCA rodeos worked include the state fairs in Minnesota and Wyoming and many rodeos in Texas including the Southwestern International in El Paso, Trinity Valley Exposition and Belton’s 4th of July rodeo for 17 years and the Johnson County Sherriff’s Posse Rodeo for 21 consecutive years. He has served on the PRCA Executive   Board  of rodeo in the Texas Circuit.

Throckmorton announced the PBR World Finals of Bull Riding televised in Las Vegas in 2001, 2002 and in 2003. Charlie had an opportunity to announce the PBR World Challenge in 2001 (the first time PBR was televised live on NBC) as well as the famous Chris Shivers million-dollar bonus ride attempt on Little Yellow Jacket in Colorado Springs. Throckmorton also announced the very first PBR National Bull Futurity ever held.

Charlie Throckmorton’s voice has been heard on countless number of radio and TV affiliates throughout the country including NBC Television Billboards advertising products as Ford, CarQuest, Wrangler and many others. He has served as Master of Ceremony for the National Cowboy Reunion held in Las Vegas for many years. Charlie also announced several years for the late Ben Johnson, World Champion Cowboy and Academy Award winning actor, in Celebrity rodeos that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities.

From Tacoma, Washington, to Tampa, Florida, and from Atlantic City, New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona and hundred of stops along the way Charlie Throckmorton has covered the sport of rodeo with a microphone and enthusiasm to thousands of rodeo fans.
